Welcome!
Radio drama, audio theater, audio drama, audio fiction–whatever you prefer to call it, I’m here to call on you to explore the power of telling stories using sound alone. Ironically the most visual of all media, ‘movies for your mind’ skip the cerebral cortex and print images on the biggest multiplex ever created: your mind.
Calling on a history pioneered by the likes of Orson Welles, Norman Corwin, and Arch Oboler, my work in modern audio fiction podcasts honors the tradition of America’s ‘Golden Age’ of 1940s-50s radio drama while propelling the art form into the 21st century. In addition to the obvious influences of radio’s golden age, I love the work of 1970s-80s America (work by Tom Lopez and Yuri Rasovsky, among others), as well as the greats of the modern era, including Roger Gregg, John Dryden, William Dufris, and Dirk Maggs.
While I’m best known for innovating on location recording techniques in the United States, the Covid-19 reality has forced me to rethink how to capture the very highest quality, immersive, naturalistic audio performance. This, combined with a desire to ‘pay forward’ the generosity of so many mentors, I decided in April 2020 to offer a free online audio course, “So You Wanna Make Audio Fiction?” now available here as a free 5-part video lecture series.
I had so much fun with the 50+ people from across the world that signed up for this course, that I decided to keep the adventure going and pivot this site (originally the corporate site for FinalRune Productions) to be dedicated to my sharing what I know about the craft of audio fiction and building a community of creators around it.
You’ll still find a complete collection of my stories here, but for more details on my professional work, see: Dagaz Media.
Here are some of the resource you’ll find here:
- Deep behind the scenes looks at shows I’ve produced, including royalty-free non-commercial access to produce 12+ of my early scripts (2006-2009).
- Coming soon: Access to some of my vast sound effects library for free use in audio drama projects – no $$$ needed just attribution!
- Access to my video lectures, So You Wanna Make Audio Fiction?. Completely free worldwide access to this material. I only ask that you use to go on and make good stuff!
- Regular articles about a range of topics including talk about the craft, takes on new/favorite gear, and behind the scenes photo/video of work I’ve done.
Thank you for your interest and I hope what I share helps get you bitten by the bug to go out and create (or appreciate!) audio fiction!
