Synopsis:
In the city of Messina, AngelCore enforces perfect order through omnipresent surveillance and control. Beneath the polished surface, cracks begin to show as a rogue hacker and a conflicted operative uncover buried truths. Recursion is an audio drama exploring identity, resistance, and the cost of freedom.
We are seeking talented voice actors to bring this high-stakes story to life.
Roles
Paint
- Description: A Black operative tasked with observing Creeper, Paint is a reflective, resourceful figure navigating the sanitized city of Messina. Intelligent and deliberate, he questions his role in a system he doesn’t fully trust. His journey is marked by a growing connection to Creeper and a quiet moral struggle.
- Age Range: 30–45
- Voice Qualities: Calm, deliberate, with a reflective tone. Paint’s voice conveys sharp intellect and inner tension, hinting at the burden of his mission.
- Audition Material:
- Monologue: “Messina’s a machine. Smooth, precise, predictable. But every machine has a limit. A threshold where the system starts to break down. She knows that threshold. Knows how far she can push before the cage snaps shut. That’s why she’s still here. Still moving. But me? I don’t blend here. Everything’s too sanitized. People notice me. They remember me. And the shinier the cage, the harder it is to see the bars.”
- Dialogue: “They sent me here for her. I don’t know why. It doesn’t add up. You read her file. Nothing about it screams subtle. You don’t need a guy like me for someone like her. You don’t need a chameleon; you need a ghost. Someone to make her disappear quietly. Hell, send a drone strike. But instead, they sent me. So now I’m walking through this polished city that breathes like a machine, trying to figure out why she hasn’t burned out yet. How does she keep moving in a city that tracks every breath?”
Creeper
- Description: A brilliant hacker and pianist, Creeper thrives on finding cracks in AngelCore’s oppressive system. Her wit, creativity, and defiance drive her to challenge the system while staying one step ahead of its enforcers. Her connection to Paint is a mix of suspicion and mutual respect.
- Age Range: 20–35
- Voice Qualities: Sharp, intelligent, and slightly playful, with an edge of intensity. Creeper’s voice reflects her duality as a creative spirit and a relentless disruptor.
- Audition Material:
- Monologue: “B♭. The jazz key. A little bent, a little blue. Just like this city. Every note has a place, a shape, a sound that fits—until you press the wrong one. Or maybe the right one at the wrong time. That’s what AngelCore doesn’t get. It’s all about dissonance. Breaking the pattern, finding the cracks, and slipping through. They think they’ve mapped it all, but music doesn’t play by their rules. Neither do I.”
- Dialogue: “Menerva, show me the latest drone activity from Sector Seven. Increased activity? Let me guess, recalibration… triggered by a glitch. A glitch, right. Because that’s how they explain things they don’t understand. But glitches don’t just happen. Somebody whispers into the machine, and it leans in. Somebody’s playing the same game I am. Maybe better. Pull up the encrypted files. Project Blueprint? What the hell is that? Locked down? Of course, it is. Keep it on the radar, but don’t poke. Not tonight.”
Seraphine
- Description: AngelCore’s cold and calculating director, Seraphine is the embodiment of control. She orchestrates Messina’s operations with ruthless precision, driven by an unshakable belief in the necessity of order. She is Creeper’s ultimate adversary.
- Age Range: 35–55
- Voice Qualities: Smooth, commanding, and chilling. Seraphine’s voice reflects unflinching authority, masking a relentless determination to eliminate threats.
- Audition Material:
- Monologue: “Order in motion. Every piece in its place. Glitches are symptomatic. They ripple. Small at first, then larger, until the system breaks. That’s why we don’t allow glitches. Environmental interference, kiosk malfunctions—these are symptoms, not causes. The cause is always deliberate. Someone whispers into the system, and the whole thing listens. They think it’s subtle. It’s not. Tighten the net. Recalibrate all drones in Sector Seven. No gaps. No assumptions. I don’t care how small the ripple is—it stops here.”
- Dialogue: “You missed the signal. A flicker on a public screen, a recalibration in a surveillance drone. Layered into that noise was a pattern. Encrypted, deliberate. A message meant for her. Not for us. She’s testing the leash, seeing how far she can pull before we snap it tight. Deploy enforcers to every choke point in Sector Seven. Double the patrols. No handoffs, no unscheduled deviations. And if you find her, bring her in. Alive. For now.”
Menerva
- Description: Creeper’s AI assistant, Menerva is sharp-witted, sarcastic, and fiercely loyal. She provides technical support and comedic relief, often teasing Creeper about her decisions.
- Age Range: N/A (AI character)
- Voice Qualities: Smooth, slightly teasing, with a hint of detachment. Menerva should sound distinctly artificial but conversational and expressive.
- Audition Material:
- Monologue: “Ah, another nocturne in B♭. Truly revolutionary. I mean, what would a lifeless, soulless AI know about music, right? Go ahead, Creeper, stick to your notes and leave the numbers to me. But let me let you in on a little secret—it’s all patterns. Notes, numbers, drones, people—it’s all the same. And yours, well… let’s just say they’re predictable. Inspiring, but predictable.”
- Dialogue: “Pulling the latest logs now… Sector Seven, recalibration triggered by—wait for it—a glitch. Curious, isn’t it? Glitches always are. But glitches, my dear, tend to invite visitors. Shall I start composing my farewell symphony? No? Fine. I’ll just make a note of the mysterious Project Blueprint file that flashed and vanished from your terminal. But of course, you didn’t see it either, right?”
